About Your Second Life

Your Second Life is a publication for people starting over. A divorce, a layoff, burnout, an illness, a move you didn’t choose — whatever ended, you’re now rebuilding, usually with less time, less money, and less energy than the standard advice assumes.

What we publish

Practical, concrete guidance across five areas of rebuilding: career growth, financial footing, healthy living, mindset and wellness, and getting more done with limited capacity. We write for the week you’re actually in — what to do first, what it roughly costs, and where the common advice tends to fail.

Our editorial standards

  • Facts come from named sources. When we cite a legal protection, a deadline, a program, or a health guideline, it comes from the agency responsible for it — the EEOC, the Department of Labor, the CFPB, the CDC, SAMHSA, and similar — not from folklore that circulates unattributed.
  • We don’t invent stories. No fabricated anecdotes, no fictional case studies presented as real people.
  • We hedge where hedging is honest. Money and health topics depend on your situation. Where something varies, we say so, and we say when a real professional is the right next step.
  • Corrections: if we got something wrong, tell us via the contact page and we’ll fix it.

What this site is not

Nothing here is medical, psychological, legal, or financial advice, and nothing here replaces a qualified professional who knows your situation. If you’re in crisis right now, don’t read articles — call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, free, 24/7), or text HOME to 741741 (Crisis Text Line).
